FRISCO, Texas — Dan Tatsch, of Frisco, and his wife, Rebecca have a problem: they love animals.
“Just a little bit,” Dan said. “I think our fantasy is buying hundreds of acres, moving out to the country and adopting them all. Although, we know that’s not realistic.”
In addition to their six dogs, they’d like to help as many animals as possible.
That’s why, a few years ago, on North Texas Giving Day, Dan and Rebecca went online to find an animal-based charity they could donate to. What they found instead was heartbreaking.
“We saw a lot of charities that had a tally of zero,” Dan said. “And that just felt really bad.”
To make sure no animal non-profit went without a donation, they gave a donation to all of them.
“333,” Rebecca said, referencing the number of charities they donated to in 2021.
Almost a dozen of those donations went to non-animal charities, but more than 300 went to animal-based charities, something they've done each of the past seven years.
In the history of North Texas Giving Day, no one has given to more charities than Dan and Rebecca.
“We weren’t trying to set a record,” Dan said. “We just wanted to make sure no one went home empty handed. That was it.”
More than anything, they wanted to serve as an inspiration. Charities all over North Texas, animal based or not, need help.
Dan and Rebecca say whether someone has a little or a lot, the best way to make an impact is to simply give.
“Every dollar donated makes a difference,” Rebecca said. “It truly does and I believe that from the bottom of my heart.”
“In your own small way you’ve made the world a better place,” said Dan. “Or you have done something to help someone else make the world a better place.”
And that feels good.
