REAL School Gardens, a nonprofit focused on building "learning gardens" at schools nationwide, hit the century mark in North Texas this weekend.

The 100th garden in the area was completed Saturday at Jerry R. Junkins Elementary School in Carrollton. The program's goal was to provide "outdoor learning opportunities and daily exposure to healthy fruits and vegetables."

"I'm particularly proud of this event because it stands as a mile-marker for the organization and all of our school and corporate partners," REAL School Gardens CEO Jeanne McCarty said.

Employees of Sprouts Farmers Market joined elementary school students, staff and parents to assist REAL School Gardens in the effort.

REAL School Gardens, which started with one school in 2003, was founded with funding by Fort Worth philanthropist Richard Rainwater, who passed away in September.
