New Zealand-style ice cream makes its way to North Texas

Mr. Henry's in Burleson is the first to serve this popular treat

BURLESON, Texas — Chances are, most Americans have never tried New Zealand-style ice cream. It only arrived in the states a few years ago and there are only a handful of spots in the entire country that serve the sweet treat.

And now, there’s one in North Texas.

It’s called Mr. Henry’s in Burleson. Henry Lazcano is the owner.

“Mr. Henry’s is a New Zealand-style ice cream shop,” Lazcano sad.

Lazcano says he first tried New Zealand style ice cream on a business trip and he was hooked after one bite.

“And I thought we really needed something like this over in DFW,” Lazcano said.

So how is New Zealand-style ice cream different?

“We blend premium vanilla ice cream with real fruit,” said Lazcano.

Any fruit. Any toppings.

The result, said Lazcano, is ice cream that’s smoother, creamier, and tastier.

This version of ice cream started in New Zealand’s berry farms and came to the states less than 10 years ago.

Mr. Henry’s is the only New Zealand-style ice cream shop in North Texas and Lazcano said one of maybe only 10 in the entire country.

“I wouldn’t need to eat any other ice cream other than New Zealand because I’ll never run out of options,” he said.
