New Year brings new hope for North Texans

Many people are excited for new opportunities as DFW gets ready to ring in 2024.

DALLAS — From Reunion Tower to downtown Forney, from Sundance Square to the Dallas Children’s Aquarium, this weekend North Texans are ready to have a ball.

“I am ready for 2024,” said Alicia Underwood.

“It’s a new year, get to restart,” said 10-year-old Elliot Vrana.

People often look back regretfully anytime a year ends, so why do they celebrate when a new one begins?

“Every year brings a new beginning,” Forney resident Willie Terry said.

Perhaps the fireworks and drones at Reunion Tower, or the ball drop in Forney or the many ball drops at the Children’s Aquarium offer a glimpse as to why.

“We want things to be better so anticipating things to be better,” said Terry.

Celebrating a new year isn’t about closing the door on what’s behind. Instead, it opens a window of hope for what lies ahead.

Have goals and dreams?

“I’m trying to get the worm,” said 9-year-old Harper Taylor, as she showed off her dance moves.

Like Harper, maybe we’ll nail it.

Or maybe we still need practice.

2024 won’t be perfect, but perhaps it’s a chance to try.

“You can start over in 2024,” said 10-year-old Zooey Vrana.

It’s an opportunity to set aside our differences and work together to make this the best year yet.

“If people are happy, other people get happy and it’s just like a little chain, a movement like happy, happy, happy,” said Zooey.

Which might make this a happy, happy, happy New Year.

“It could be that year,” Terry said. “Why not?”

It’s up to us to not drop the ball.
