LEWISVILLE, Texas — Pretty soon many people will gather around with their favorite Thanksgiving foods on one table. But what if it was possible to get all the Thanksgiving favorites in one slice?
“A lot of people are like, ‘that’s weird. That’s not pizza,’” said Greg Tierney, owner of Motor City Pizza in Lewisville. “But it’s good, it’s really good.”
Tierney says his new Thanksgiving pizza, which has just about every savory Thanksgiving staple piled on top, is really good because it’s all made from scratch.
The turkey is smoked in-house. The dressing is a restaurant recipe. The sweet potatoes and green beans are prepped and added on top.
Once it comes out of the oven, it’s topped with—you guessed it—house-made gravy, fried onions and dollops of cranberry sauce.
“I guess the only thing we don’t put on there is the pumpkin pie,” Tierney joked.
Tierney said it wouldn’t surprise him if most people thought it looked less than appetizing. In fact, one group of diners had a questionable reaction when they saw the Thanksgiving pizza on the menu, but they decided to try it anyway.
“And then they turned around and ordered another one to go,” Tierney said.
Creating uniquely inspired pizzas, outside of the robust traditional menu, has become a fun challenge for Tierney, one that’s earned him recognition as one of the best pizza shops in North Texas.
During the Dallas Mavericks run to the NBA Finals, he created a pizza inspired by the favorite Slovenian foods of Mavs star Luka Doncic.
Tierney says the Thanksgiving pizza works because it’s Detroit-style pizza, a rectangular thick pan pizza that can support all those delicious toppings.
Tierney said it'll be on the menu through at least the end of November.
“Give it a try. You might be surprised that you really like it.”
