BOSTON — In addition to airing every game of the 2024 NBA Finals on our station, WFAA is also hosting a special presentation called "The Pregame" before each and every matchup in the series. Head here for more information.
These NBA Finals bring together two of some of the best sports fans and cities in the country.
Dallas boasts historic franchises like the Cowboys, an NBA champion, an NHL Stanley Cup winner, and most recently, the 2023 World Series Champion Rangers. Boston, obviously, has won enough NBA titles, Super Bowls, Stanley Cups, and World Series, to fill up five museums.
"It's Beantown. It's the Hub. It's all centralized Boston," said one Boston resident.
Boston and Dallas are two cities almost 1,800 miles apart. The two cities have different cultures, different vibes, and even speak a different language.
"How well do I know my Texas slang? I probably don't know any Texas slang," laughed a New England resident.
WFAA asked Bostonians to finish the phrase, "He's all hat, and no cattle."
To which, they responded with 'No belt buckle" and "No boots" and "All chaps." This means the person can talk a big game but cannot back it up or take no action.
WFAA then asked, "Bigger the hair, closer to God."
To which, they responded with 'Bigger the hat?' and 'Uglier the girl?'
We asked to finish the following phrase, "If you don't like the weather in Texas...", they responded with 'Wait five minutes' and 'Wait an hour' and 'Leave.'
The unpredictable weather is clearly something that happens here in New England also.
"Wicked pissa, wicked awesome. It's all about wicked here," laughed one Bostonian.
In Texas we say 'Howdy!' and they say 'Sup!'
This year's NBA Finals gives us an opportunity to learn something about each other. It's only fitting that the Dallas Mavericks try to make history again in one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country.
