Going streaking? 2 Dallas women say running a mile a day brings them joy

Kerry Little and Lee-Ann Graham are part of a growing number of "streakers," people who run every single day

DALLAS — As the shoe guru and former training coordinator at Luke’s Locker in Dallas, Kerry Little can tell any runner how to hit their stride.

But the best advice she has for anyone serious about running is to not follow her lead.

“Do as I say, not as I do,” Little said.

What is it she’s doing?

“I’m a streaker,” she laughed.

She’s not the only one.

“I’m a streaker, said fourth grade math teacher Lee-Ann Graham. “It does surprise people sometimes.”

There’s a whole community of streakers online, people all over the country who can’t stop running.

To be a streaker, a person has to run at least one mile a day, every day.

Little has been doing it nearly two years, while Graham is approaching three years.

One man from Utah holds the longest streak. He’s run at least a mile every single day for 52 years.

Neither Little nor Graham set out to start a running streak. They just started running and loved the way it made their days better.

“It gives me strength,” Little said. “It reaffirms my weaknesses and my strengths. It really does give me a purpose.”

Little doesn’t recommend that competitive runners run every day without a break.

In fact, she says no one needs to run every day, but everyone should find something that brings them joy and then run with it.

“Make each day worth it and not just let the day fade away without having a purpose,” Little said.

Or without starting a streak.

“Yeah, keep streaking,” Graham said. “Keep streaking. Or just do what you can do. Do what you can do. Do the best you can do. We’re all trying to do our best here, right?”

Right. Streaking optional.
