'They're both doing great' | Family of formerly conjoined Arlington twins celebrate one year post-op

"It was...I don't know how to describe it," James Finley told WFAA, as he remembered his daughter's surgery exactly one year ago.

ARLINGTON, Texas — In the Finley family's home in Arlington, everything and everyone looks as it should. That normalcy is a reminder of what a difference a year can make.

"It was...I don't know how to describe it," James Finley told WFAA, as he remembered his daughter's surgery exactly one year ago.

Finley's twin daughters, Amie and Jamie, were conjoined by their livers and chest. They were separated last year by surgeons and Cook Children's in a risky but miraculous surgery.

"I just stayed faithful, through everything, the whole time," he said.

Both Finley's girls are healthy despite some early complications for Amie.

"After the surgery her heart would go over her windpipe, so her heart is actually on the right side instead of the left," Finley explained.

But her heart is working great, and both girls’ feeding tubes were recently removed, Finley said.

"Aime is the kind, gentle soul, you can just see it in her eyes," Finley said. "And Jaime, she’s my little firecracker."

The twins’ older brother said his little sisters can accomplish anything they want with the separation behind them.

"They might even learn how to drive cars when they’re 18," he said.

"They’re just so pretty and I’m just like how am, I gonna deal with this when I get older," Finely laughed. "I just hope they stick together, stay close, be sisters. I always tell them that."
