RICHLAND HILLS — This story is about one of the most legendary rock meetings of all time... but it's a tale not many people are familiar with.

Thursday will mark the 50th anniversary of The Beatles meeting Elvis Presley.

Not many people know more about the epic get-together than Richland Hills Elvis scholar and fanatic John Dawson and his good friend Deryl Harrison.

"My knowledge comes from hearing the stories from people who were actually there," Dawson said.

"It was legendary," Harrison added. "And nobody knows about it."

It was August 27, 1965. The King invited the Fab Four to his Southern California home. Dawson said Paul McCartney taught Elvis how to play the bass guitar, the group played music together and laughed.

"It's been said that John Lennon walked up to Elvis and said, 'You must be Elvis!' And everyone laughed," Dawson said.

Only a few photos capture one of the greatest moments in rock-and-roll history. The meeting was not publicized until it was already over.

Dawson and Harrison have spent years piecing together exactly what happened on that day 50 years ago. They're even close friends with Elvis' stepbrother.

"We've gone to Memphis and Graceland a number of times," Dawson said.

You can bet the two will be hanging out on Thursday, listening to the music of their favorite artists on the anniversary of that epic meeting.
