Q: Mrs. Slater, it has always been a question stuck in the back of my mind whenever I watch News 8 and hear about a tornado warning. How do you react whenever you hear about a tornado warning issued for the county you live in.
A: I always call my husband before I get on the set. I leave my phone on the set the entire time, but I turn the ringer off. I text back and forth to make sure everything is okay. Pete is great about giving us weather forecasts for our specific location so we know if we need to worry or not. He is a great guy. Pete rocks.
Q: OK Shelly, you said anything! When Chris Flanigan first joined daybreak his eyebrows were very full and now they look much better and I am just wondering what he did or who he saw to help with this matter. I would very much like to help someone with that same problem.
A: And I said, I'd answer anything! I have the best eyebrow lady EVER. Her name is Deborah, and she is at Aqua Medical Spa at Hillcrest, right by SMU. She is wonderful, and I guarantee she could help you.
Q: When will John McCaa get his own local talk show?
A: John doesn t have any interest in a talk show, I just asked him. But he does do his Un-Cut segments every Friday at 6pm. I hope you check those out.
Q: Pete or Dale?
A: Pete. Oh wait, Dale. No Pete, you kidding? Answering that question is like begging for trouble!
Q: I am a long time faithful Channel 8 viewer. I enjoy seeing you in the anchor slot. I am curious why Gloria Campos is off so much of the time. I hope it is not health related.
A: Gloria just had back surgery. She has been off because of that, she is feeling so much better now. So you'll see her a lot more again!
Q: Hi Ms.Shelly! what happened to your co anchor Casey?
A: Casey anchors Sunday nights and fills in when John is off sometimes. He is so much fun, it's a treat when he fills in.
Q: I saw that there was a new Daybreak anchor. What happened to Chris Flanagan?
A: He made a change for his family to go to Good Morning Texas, so check him out at 9am..
Q: How much spam do people send you through this?
A: Nine out of ten questions are legit. But some guy did just ask me my opinion on thongs? Not going to respond to that one!
Q: With all the tornadoes south of Dallas recently, I notice that Ms Coyle was assigned to Channel 8 Helicopter duty, why couldn't we have Pete Delkus in the Helicopter and Ms Coyle, who looks much better in HD, in front of the camera, at the weather center?
A: Colleen is a doll, I agree! Pete is in charge of the weather department, as he has the most experience, the degrees, etc. So he is the one to forecast and stay in the studio. I have no doubt Colleen will get there, too one day.
Q: What is your opinion on the Mavericks? Assuming they get past Portland, do you think they can go all the way and finally win the title?
A: Heck yes. We have to believe don't we?
Q: Did the man that walks- does he do any type of diet along with his walking to lose so much weight?
A: He does eat more vegetables, and everything in moderation. But he still splurges every now and then. When I got to his house for the interview, he had dougnuts waiting. Exercise is his main weight loss tool, but he does eat healthier, too.
Q: Hey girl!! I have met you a couple of times with Kimarie!! She and I are neighbors...You look awesome by the way...I think last I saw you was at her shower and you were about to deliver. I was just watching you on TV and your hair looks great-who do you go to??? I love the color too!! Thanks!!! Lisa :)
A: Good to hear from you. I get my hair cut at Salon Palomar off Mockingbird. Abel is my man, tell him hi!
Q: Why do the local channels here including WFAA have such little coverage of state and national politics? I rarely see the local Congressmen or state reps on the news. You all do not have a reporter assigned to the state legislature or DC or regular reports from Austin & DC. Why not?
A: We do have a Belo reporter in DC. We also use our Austin station for news a lot. But ultimately, we leave national stuff to the national news. We try to be local, because what you get from Channel 8, the network can't provide.

Q: Does Dale even bother to come in to work when Pete and Steve hog the air time?
A: Oh yes, we are all here. Remember, just as fast as the weather fires up, it can die down, or turn from a weather story into a news story. As a result, we all sit on the set during the weather coverage. It can be hours, as you know. But we're all right there. Dale comes around for sports at 6pm just in case, and leaves once his time slot is over.
