FORT WORTH, Texas — A big name in acting is headed to Fort Worth to be part of this year's Juneteenth celebrations in the Stockyards.
The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Organizers have invited award-winning actor Glynn Turman to serve as the rodeo Grand Marshall. Turman has a longstanding relationship with the organization that dates back years.
Turman played Preach in the movie Cooley High, Colonel Taylor in the hit sitcom A Different World, and had a recurring role on the HBO hit series The Wire.
Turman is honored for the invite to Cowtown especially since he's served as a Grand Marshal for the organization in the past. Turman also shared the honor in California of being Co-Grand Marshal with fellow actor Danny Glover. Turman calls the opportunity an important part of history.
"The idea that our story, our history is not only an American history but a worldwide participation history," Turman said.
Turman is no stranger to the Western world either. He knows how to ride a horse too and loves sporting western gear. He is celebrating the first anniversary of the release of his autobiography documentary which is available across multiple platforms.
Turman is an honorary lifetime Grand Marshall for the organization. The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo is on Saturday, June 15 at Cowtown Coliseum.
