DALLAS — It’s finally cooling down, but the Dallas-Fort Worth art scene is heating up!

You can get a piece of permanent art at a tattoo expo or create your own on a nature field journal walk.

Ready to rock out to your favorite music artist instead? There are plenty of concerts this weekend from pop music it-girl Tate McRae, to Mexican singer Peso Pluma, to hip-hop icon Missy Elliot.

No matter what form of entertainment you’re looking for right now, DFW has something for you.

Here’s a look at what is happening this weekend.

Friday, July 19

2024 International Tattoo Collectors Expo (Arlington, all weekend)

Celebrate the art of tattoos this weekend at the 2024 International Tattoo Collectors Expo!

The expo for tattoo lovers, or “collectors,” will run from Friday through Sunday at the Lowes Arlington Hotel near AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field. This year will feature more than 450 professional artists from across the nation putting their skills and talent on display.

Not ready to commit to a tattoo quite yet? Find inspiration for your next tattoo, explore over 200 booths, and shop for tattoo-related merchandise and apparel. Or, try your luck in a best tattoo contest in categories including best cover up, most unusual, best anime and best arm sleeve color.

Whether you’re fully inked up or looking to get your first tattoo, the expo has something for you.

Doors open for the public at 2 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. General admission tickets are $25 and weekend passes are $60.

Tate McRae: Think Later Tour at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory (Irving)

Canadian pop singer Tate McRae is bringing her world tour to North Texas after shows in Austin and Houston. The tour will focus on her second studio album, “Think Later,” which is described as trap-pop and alternative R&B.

The album features viral singles “Greedy” and “Exes,” the latter of which peaked at 34 on the Billboard Hot 100.

McRae first gained popularity when she was the first Canadian finalist on the reality show “So You Think You Can Dance” at 13 years old. Since then, her music career took off after her debut EP “All the Things I Never Said” in 2020 and her debut studio album “I Used to Think I Could Fly” in 2022.

Resale tickets are still available for the concert on Ticketmaster. Presley Regier is the opener, and the performance begins at 8 p.m.

Field Journaling at Cedar Ridge Preserve (Dallas)

With temperatures dropping into the low 90s this weekend (that’s practically spring weather in Texas), enjoy an afternoon of sketching and watercolor animals and landscapes at the Cedar Ridge Preserve.

Cedar Ridge Preserve is managed by Audubon Dallas which helps protect the habitat and its biodiversity while educating the community on conservation efforts.

The event is intended for beginners and those interested in field journaling, a way to record your observations and thoughts while out in nature.

There is a $5 fee to register for the event and additional donations for the preserve are always welcome. If it rains this weekend, there is a chance the trail will be closed to avoid any damage to the area. Check out the preserve’s Facebook page for any updates.
