DESOTO, Texas — Making art and culture more visible throughout southern Dallas county is one of the main goals of the Desoto Arts Commission.
It is also one of the founding principles of the Southwest Dallas County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Arts and Letters Commission.
Their mission through art is to preserve and promote all forms of arts that express the Black Experience in positive and liberating ways, especially those that present Black women in positive roles.
The common goal of both groups is what led to a unique partnership to amplify local artists making Desoto the epicenter of arts and entertainment in Southern Dallas County.
One of their biggest events through the partnership is happening Friday, November 3.
"Falling in Love with the Arts" will be an evening to honor local artists and organizations who have made notable contributions to their respective fields in Southern Dallas County.
In addition to honoring notable artists and organizations, the program will showcase local talent in various mediums in the performing arts such as singing, dance, spoken word/poetry, acting, comedy, music, and improvisational theatre.
This event is free, open to the public, and aligns with the city of Desoto cultural arts master plan. The plan is designed to give those in the arts a platform to perform locally, expose the community to a variety of art forms and increase economic development derived from the arts.
