DALLAS — Dozens of artists will be armed with spray paint and paintbrushes to create 25 portraits of Dallas-Fort Worth’s popular musicians at Dallas’ Deep Ellum Art Park.
The new murals will stretch from Main Street to Canton Street along Good Latimer Expressway underneath Highway I-345, at the gateway to the historic Deep Ellum neighborhood just east of downtown.
The project will begin on Nov. 18 and will be completed just in time for the Deep Ellum Block Party on Nov. 23.
“For years it’s been a dream of mine to see the entrances into Deep Ellum become magical and interactive gateways,” artist Jerod “DTOX” Davies, the curatorial lead behind the project, said in a statement.
Each mural will highlight the DFW music legends as a means to honor and “give flowers” to the musicians making an impact in the Deep Ellum Cultural District and the city, organizers say. Trees, plants and florals will surround and uplift the 25 featured musicians once the artistic transformation is complete.
People attending the Deep Ellum Block Party will get the chance to pick up a paintbrush and jam with the artists on Nov. 23.
