16 things to do this weekend in Dallas-Fort Worth

Sunny skies, comfortable temps and plenty of outdoor events are on the docket this weekend, March 6 through 8, across the metroplex.

It's going to be gorgeous out there this weekend, y'all, so get out and enjoy it— here are 16 events to keep you busy.

Friday

1. Get in on all the crazy Luka action Friday night as the Mavs take on the Memphis Grizzlies at the American Airlines Center. 

The game begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are starting at $25.

2. Go to Ireland without leaving the metroplex this weekend at the North Texas Irish Festival. The festival runs all weekend long, starting at 6 p.m. Friday. Tickets range in price but start at $10. 

And be sure to enjoy all the sheep herding, storytellers, Irish dance and song, along with lots of tasty cultural food and drink at Fair Park in Dallas.

3. Calling all 'Queen' fans— a live concert "recreating the look, sound, pomp and showmanship" of the famous band is taking over the Winspear Opera House on Friday night. 

Tickets for One Night of Queen start at $29. The show begins at 8 p.m.

Saturday

4. Both for kiddos and kids-at-heart, the 'Journey to Space' concert from the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at Bass Performance Hall is sure to be an "out-of-this-world experience." 

NASA images and videos will be projected above a live orchestra as the musicians play tunes from all your space film favorites— think 'Star Wars,' 'Apollo 13' or 'Star Trek.'  

The show begins at 11 a.m. and tickets are $11 to $22. 

5. Watch the Stars compete against the Nashville Predators on the ice at the American Airlines Center on Saturday afternoon. 

Tickets were going for as low as $23. The puck drops at 1 p.m. 

6. To drink or not to drink? That won't be a question asked at the Shakespeare Dallas Pub Crawl this Saturday. Running from 2 to 7 p.m., the 9th annual crawl will make its way through Deep Ellum with plenty of philosophic and poetic performances of the bard's work on display. 

If you've got any "Elizabethan garb," go ahead and grab it, because there will be a costume contest along with trivia, too. Tickets are $15. 

7. Take a trip to AT&T Stadium this weekend for RFD-TV's The American Rodeo competition. 

Fans will get to watch the best of the best fight it out for the more than $2 million in prize money in events like steer wrestling, barrel racing, tie-down, saddle bronc or bull riding.

With events on Saturday and Sunday, tickets start at $21. 

8. Lila Downs, a Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning singer, will be at the Winspear Opera House on Saturday night for a show that is sure to hit your heartstrings with her thoughtful music. 

The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets start at $39.  

9. Get outside to enjoy the weather and get active this weekend all at the same time with the Big Easy 2020 Crawfish Boil 5K and 10K in Little Elm. 

Crawfish, Cajun favorites, live music, and beer are just part of the fun planned for this event.

The running starts at 5 p.m. and participants are encouraged to dress up with their best Mardi Gras creations. Friends can attend the party, too, even if they don't partake in the race. Entry fees start at $28. 

10. Stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser will make her way to the House of Blues in Dallas on Saturday night as a part of her "Bang it Out" tour.

Tickets to see the Comedy Central star start at $25, and the show begins at 6 p.m. 

11. Or, if you want to try a different kind of comedy, check out T. J. Miller's set at Hyena's Comedy Nightclub in Dallas this weekend. His bio describes his stand-up style as "Smooth Like Fire, Hip Like Lincoln." 

The Saturday show for the star comedian, known for roles in a number of shows and films like 'Deadpool,' begins at 10:30 p.m., doors open at 9 p.m. Or see him Sunday at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. 

Tickets are $55. 

Sunday

12. Love Filipino cuisine? Then check out the Dallas Filipino Food Festival on Saturday afternoon at Four Corners Brewing Company. 

The brand-new fest runs from 12 to 4 p.m. and will feature local spots like Not Your Lola's, Marie's Kitchen, Ulam Modern Filipino Kitchen, Hella Lumpia, Bilao, and Stephen Smith from Outlawed Ice Cream. Plus, they'll have a live DJ.

13. Couldn't make the game on Friday? Don't worry, you can still catch the Mavs at home on Sunday as they play the Indiana Pacers.

The game begins at 6 p.m. and tickets were going for as little as $25.

14. Join WFAA's own Kara Sewell at the Concert for Kindness to help support the homeless pets of Dallas.

Artists of all breeds are joining musicians with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for the benefit concert at Moody Performance Hall. 

Attendees can enjoy the concert and silent auction while sipping on some wine, beer or coffee, or while nibbling on different desserts and hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are $100.  

15. Celebrate Carnival with Fiesta de Carnaval 2020, a family-friendly event filled with lots of colors, dance, and music at the Dallas Events Center in Farmers Branch.

The event will raise money for Representa Foundation, a group that works to support underprivileged children who are in the area or in Latin America while celebrating Latino culture. 

The fiesta begins at 3 p.m. and tickets cost $10 if purchased beforehand. 

16. Have fun outside while celebrating Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, at Southfork Ranch in Murphy on Sunday. 

The event begins with a color run at 9 a.m. before the color party takes off at 11 a.m. It will keep going until 5 p.m. With plenty of traditional Indian dishes, dance, live performances, DJs and dry colors to paint the sky, Holi Mela— The 9th Annual Dallas Festival of Colors sounds like a great way to celebrate. 

Organizers suggest you bring a towel or change of clothes along to use before driving home.

Tickets are $10 online and $15 on the day of the event. Color packets will be available for attendees to buy at $3 or $5, but no outside coloring will be allowed.
