Jonah Javad is a sports anchor and senior sports reporter at WFAA in Dallas, Tex.
1) Who are you?
I joined WFAA in March 2018, after nearly six years as a sports anchor/reporter at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, NY. And I currently serve as a weeknight sports reporter and fill-in sports anchor/host.
I've been a focal part of WFAA’s coverage of the Dallas Mavericks, including the Mavs run to the 2024 NBA Finals. My reporting duties also include the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars, local colleges, high schools and everything in between.
Human interest stories are my passion. There’s enough negativity in this world. I want to promote the best humanity has to offer. I'm constantly in awe of the remarkable, inspirational people we walk amongst each day!
I am proud of the work we do and grateful to be an 11-time EMMY Award winner, including the 2024 Lone Star EMMY Award for Sports Anchor. In addition, my sports reporting has also been recognized with five Edward R. Murrow Awards.
Everyone has a story to tell and there is no greater purpose or point of pride for me than being trusted to share your stories with the north Texas community. I am thrilled to be a part of the DFW community, and look forward to continuing my work with local charities and initiatives who are helping change the world for the better.
Originally from Newton, Mass., I graduated from the University of Missouri, where I delivered the student commencement speech for the Missouri School of Journalism Class of 2012. MIZ!
I reside in Rockwall, Tex. with my wife, our son and our 125-pound newfoundland dog.
2) What are your interests?
Golf. Playing golf. Watching golf. Talking about golf. Honorable mentions: cooking/grilling, traveling and tropical house music festivals.
3) What do you like about working at WFAA?
Teamwork. Everyone here is immensely talented and they drive me to always be at my best. The collaboration involved is among the things that make this place special. By working together, communicating and sharing ideas, we’re able to provide the absolute best news coverage for our viewers.
4) What's one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I was part of a dance group in college. It's not as serious as it sounds, though we did perform in front of thousands of people. I could move back then but if I tried to teach 'em how to Dougie now... I'd tear my ACL :(
