Jason Whitely is the Senior Political Reporter at WFAA in Dallas / Fort Worth and host of Inside Texas Politics, a weekly political television program that is broadcast statewide every Sunday morning on eleven Texas television stations. Jason also co-hosts the weekly Y’all-itics political podcast which is closing in on three million downloads.
Jason’s latest documentary premiered at the 2022 Dallas International Film Festival. Titled “LET US DIE”, it details how an old desk from an estate sale and a chance meeting with a Hollywood star unlocked one of the final untold stories from World War II and exposes war crimes committed by Russian soldiers decades ago. The three-year project took him to England, Germany and Poland.
In 2018, Jason co-produced the “Discovering the DeKooning” documentary. With exclusive content, this 30-minute special was the first to uncover a number of new clues about a $165-million dollar stolen painting that was discovered behind a widow’s bedroom door in rural New Mexico. The painting had been taken in a brazen heist from the University of Arizona art museum in 1985.
In addition to politics, Jason also covers aviation with American Airlines and Southwest Airlines based in Dallas and Fort Worth. Jason has witnessed five executions of prison inmates on Texas' death row and produced live coverage from eleven hurricanes.
Jason's reporting has earned 26 Emmy Awards, five Edward R. Murrow Awards, honors from the Headliners Foundation and more than two dozen others. Jason won the Emmy for Best General Assignment Reporter in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2010 and 2005. In 2023, D Magazine named Jason as Best TV Broadcaster in its annual Best of Big D list.
Jason earned a B.A. in Political Science from Western Kentucky University.
Prior to coming to Dallas, he worked as a broadcast news reporter for television stations in Houston, St. Louis, and Nashville.
