Doors are opening across North Texas as millions of people still remain without power in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, leaving some homes without heat for hours.
A number of cities have opened or expanded temporary shelters and warming centers to help those in dire situations.
YMCAs in North Texas
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said Tuesday night that YMCAs serving Dallas, Denton, Ellis, and Rockwall counties are opening their doors for people without power and/or water to get warm.
The following YMCAs will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19:

- Moody Family YMCA
- Plano Family YMCA
- Frisco Family YMCA
- Coppell Family YMCA
- Lake Highlands Family YMCA
- Park South YMCA
- Waxahachie Family YMCA

Hot coffee, charging stations, WIFI, and water stations will be provided. Locker rooms will also be open at these branches for anyone who needs a hot shower.
Everyone who visits the YMCAs needs to follow COVID-19 protocols, including wearing masks and social distancing as much as possible.
Addison
The Addison Athletic Club located at 3900 Beltway Drive has opened as a warming center. Visitors should bring their own food and bedding. Pets are allowed but must be in a crate. For more information, click here.
Bedford
Bedford, Hurst and HEB ISD will open a warming center at 5 p.m. Monday at Central Junior High, 3191 W. Pipeline Rd. in Euless.
The warming center is expected to transition to an overnight shelter for anyone in need, officials said.
People are encouraged to bring their own sleeping bags, mats, blankets, and pillows. Cots will be available if people need them.
Officials said there will be an approximate 150-person maximum capacity and masks are required. The warming center will provide water but people are urged to bring their own food and medicine.
Showers will not be available and no pets are allowed at this time.
Cleburne
The Cleburne Conference Center located at 1501 W Henderson Street is available as a warming center.
Coppell
The CORE located at 234 Parkway Boulevard in Coppell has opened as a warming center. Visitors should wear face masks and practice social distancing.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own snacks, bedding and device charging cables. Pets are allowed but must be in a carrier or crate. No cots, food, water, or blankets will be provided. For more information, click here.
Carrollton
Newman Smith High School has opened as a warming center and overnight shelter. It's located at 2335 N. Josey Lane. It will be open until Friday, Feb. 19.
Visitors will have to follow COVID-19 protocols, including wearing masks and social distancing. Pets will not be allowed at the center, however, Carrollton Animal Services and Adoption Center will offer temporary pet housing if needed.

Dallas
The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center remains open as a warming center for homeless individuals and/or residents without power. It will be open 24 hours until further notice.
Dallas police tweeted out a number of warming stations available across the city on Wednesday:
Residents can access the warming center on Canton Street (pass the guard shack and The Black Academy of Arts and Letters). The warming center is located in Exhibit Hall A. Residents will be provided a chair and table. They should bring in meals for themselves and their family if they are able to.
Water, coffee and light snacks will be made available. The warming center is not an overnight shelter and cots will not be provided.
A COVID-19 screening will be required at sign-in. No ID is required. The warming center is set-up for proper social distancing, mask usage is required.
Dallas leaders have partnered with other organizations to open more warming centers as of Tuesday evening.
Northwest Dallas warming center:
Buckner International has opened a temporary warming center that will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17. It has capacity for 120 people. For reservations and to get location details, contact Ruth Bayona at 214-263-5386 or Aimee Encarnacion at 469-691-0062. First call, first serve basis. Appointment required. No ID required.
West Dallas warming centers:
The Ledbetter Neighborhood Association and Builders of Hope, along with city and state leaders, have joined together to provide two mobile warming stations in West Dallas.
Two charter buses will be parked at the Jaycee Zaragoza Recreation Center located at 3114 Clymer Street, and at the Nash Davis Recreation Center located at 3719 N. Hampton Road.
The buses will be parked there for the next 24 hours starting at 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 through Feb. 17. Snacks will be provided.

Decatur
The Decatur Conference Center at 2010 US-380 has opened as a temporary warming center. Visitors should come to the west entrance of the building and call 940-393-0280 if they need assistance.
Denton
The City of Denton has made a number of facilities available as a temporary extreme weather center for those in need.
Here are the locations:
MLK Jr. Rec Center: 1300 Wilson Street. 940-349-8575. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Denton County Transportation Authority offering free bus rides to warming centers
The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) is offering free rides to warming centers.
To utilize the free fare promo, passengers should notify the operator upon boarding. Delays are expected throughout the day. Below is the list of warming stations in each city accessible by DCTA bus routes.
Denton
MLK Jr. Rec Center – Denton Connect Route 2
MLK Jr. Rec Center is open 24 hours a day until further notice with access to a sitting area, water, and restrooms. Masks are required for everyone who enters the building. Disposable masks and hand sanitizer are available at the door.
Pets are permitted and cots will be provided for overnight guests. DCTA allows service and non-service animals on our vehicles, but non-service animals must be in a pet carrier specifically designed to transport animals. The carrier may not be opened on the bus, must be leak-proof and well ventilated, and be small enough to fit on the owner's lap or on the floor space in the immediate area of the owner without blocking the aisle.
Fire Station 2 – Denton Connect Route 3
Fire stations will allow the public to access restrooms, sinks, handwashing stations and water. There are no sitting areas. Masks are required. Operating hours are Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Lewisville
Music City Mall – Lewisville Connect Route 22
We added an alternative stop on Lewisville Connect Route 22 to accommodate passengers traveling to the Music City Mall warming station. The warming center entrance is between Macy’s and Zion Market. City crews are treating the driveways, parking lot and sidewalks near the warming center entrance. Passengers should bring their own snacks, water, blankets and other necessities as needed.
Pets are welcome at the Music City Mall warming station but must always be on a leash or in a kennel when inside the mall. DCTA allows service and non-service animals on our vehicles, but non-service animals must be in a pet carrier specifically designed to transport animals. Salvation Army - Lewisville Connect Route 22
The Salvation Army added 24 more beds to its temporary warming center and overnight shelter at Lakeland Baptist Church, 397 S. Stemmons Freeway just south of Main Street. They are available on a first-come basis, adults only, temperature check at the door prior to entry.
Desoto
The City of Desoto is moving its temporary warming and overnight shelter for residents without power. It's now located at Faith Bible Church, the church's gym at 1437 W. Pleasant Run Road, Desoto, 75115.
COVID-19 protocols are in place, including mask-wearing and social distancing. People wanting to spend the night should bring their own food, bedding, and personal care products. Pets are not allowed.
Euless
Euless has opened a warming center at the Euless Family Life Rec Center, officials said, which is located at 300 W. Midway.
Fairview
The Chase Oaks Church is using its Sloan Creek campus as a warming and charging station. It will be using face mask and social-distancing protocols.

Fannin County
The county has warming centers open at:

Farmersville
Farmersville has opened an overnight warming shelter at First Baptist Church of Farmersville at 124 S. Washington Street. The church can be reached at 972-782-8428.
People are advised to go to the church office and call the phone number provided. Staff members will assist them.
Flower Mound
The City of Flower Mound has warming centers available for people in need. People should call the City's non-emergency line at 972-539-0525 for more information.
Fort Worth
The City of Fort Worth opened an overnight shelter at the Fort Worth Convention Center Monday for residents without power. It's located at 1201 Houston Street and will be open 24 hours until Thursday at noon.
The City says COVID-19 screening will take place before you can enter, and protocols will be in place. Cots will be provided, however, residents are asked to bring their own blankets. Food will not be provided.
Restrooms will be available, but there will be no facilities to shower.
The City changed the rules and now pets are allowed.
The City says residents will have to find their own transportation and will have to be responsible for their own parking.
Four warming centers, which will operate from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, have been opened:

Unbound North Texas is housing youth through the weekend and into next week. They'll be housed in One Safe Place, Fort Worth's family justice center.

HopFusion Ale Works is opening its doors to people who need to get warm, charge their devices, access the internet and clean water due to power outages.
The brewery will be open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. as a warming and charging location. It is located at 200 E. Broadway Avenue, Fort Worth, 76104.
"We have so many friends without power and now without water," said Macy Moore, co-owner of HopFusion. "While we wish we could change that, we have power, heat and internet available. We collected 2,000 gallons of water prior to this crisis - bring any container you can carry water in. Hot or cold available for free to anyone who needs it."
PDM Live Ministries located at 3000 Vaughn Boulevard is opening its doors to people who need a warm place to stay overnight.
Frisco
The Islamic Center of Frisco has opened as a warming center. It's located at 11137 Frisco Street. Visitors should bring their own bedding.
Garland
The City of Garland is opening two warming centers Tuesday at 5 p.m. to help the most vulnerable in the community. Senior citizens age 65 and older and families with young children, who have no other options available, are invited to stay at the centers.
Everyone will be screened for COVID-19 and face masks must be worn. The centers are not allowing pets at this time. People are encouraged to bring their own blankets, non-perishable snacks, bottled water, phone charges and any other essentials.

The centers open Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. and will remain open until further notice. Combined, the centers can accommodate about 250 individuals at a time.

Glenn Heights
The following locations have opened warming centers for residents in Glenn Heights and surrounding areas. The centers are currently open 24 hours.

Grand Prairie
Grand Prairie residents without power are welcome at the Ruthe Jackson Center located at 3113 S. Carrier Parkway. The facility is open 24 hours until the weather improves. Face masks and social distancing will be required.

- Since we are limited in space, pets will not be allowed in the facility

Granbury
The City of Granbury has worked with churches and other local nonprofits to open several warming centers that are open to Granbury and Hood County residents.
The City recommends calling ahead of time to make sure there are slots available. Here is a full list of centers:
- Lake Granbury Conference Center (621 E. Pearl St, Granbury, TX 76048, 682-936-1200) -- 250 open slots, warming center only, bathrooms available, open till 8 p.m., citizens welcome to bring their own food and drinks, will be showing family friendly movies.

- Pecan Baptist Church (7178 Fall Creek Hwy, Granbury, TX 76049, 682-205-1565) – 200 open slots, warming center.
- First Christian Church of Granbury (2109 W. US Hwy 377, Granbury, TX 76048, 817-573- 5431) – 50 open slots, shower facilities available (bring your own showering implements, and bring your own blankets).

In order to be admitted to any warming center or shelter patrons must:
- Abide by health guidelines by wearing a mask and social distancing.
- Pets are permitted but must be on a leash or in a carrier. No aggressive animals will be allowed.
- Bring their own blankets and snacks. No food will be available, except where noted above.
- Bathroom facilities are available at most facilities.
Grapevine
The City of Grapevine has opened a warming shelter at The REC of Grapevine located at 1175 Municipal Way. If you need assistance, you can call them at 817-410-4455 or 817-410-8127. People can also visit The REC's website for information.
Haltom City
There are two warming centers established in Haltom City:
- The Christian Center at 4301 NE 28th Street
- The Recreation Center at 4839 Broadway Avenue.
Hurst
Hurst shared this location as a warming center: Central Junior High, 3191 W. Pipeline Road in Euless.
While some cots will be available, people are encouraged to bring their own sleeping bags, mats, blankets, and pillows. There will be an approximate 150-person maximum capacity. Masks are required.
Water will be provided but everyone is encouraged to bring their own food and medicines. Please be advised, no showering facilities will be available and no pets will be allowed at this time. For additional warming centers, call 211.
Our non-emergency police phone lines are currently damaged. An alternate non-emergency line that our dispatchers will answer is 817-485-6669. In an emergency, 911 still works.
Irving
The City of Irving has opened a second warming center for people without power. It's located at the Northwest Recreation Center at 2800 Cheyenne Street.
In addition, another warming center is open at the Senter Park Recreation Center at 901 Senter Road.
Visitors can bring medications, oxygen and PPE/face masks, and asked to dress warmly in layers. Pets are welcome but must remain leashed or in a carrier. Do not bring luggage.

Kaufman County
Below is a list of several facilities that have opened as warming centers in the Kaufman County area. People going to these shelters are responsible for their own bedding and personal necessity items, including food.
Here is the list:
- The Forney Police Department Lobby located at 110 Justice Center Dr, Forney. There is a public restroom and have a limited number of outlets to plug in devices.
- C-Life Church located at 204 FM 1641, Forney -- Warming center overnight shelter.
- Ables Springs Fire Station located at 30000 FM 429 North, Terrell. Enter through the back door into the community room. Warming center and overnight shelter.
- First Baptist Church Kaufman located at 2000 West Fair Street Kaufman, TX 75142. Warming center and overnight shelter.
- First Christian Church Terrell located at 405 North Adelaide St. Terrell, TX 75160.Enter the Charles E. Mull Family Center from Brin Street. Warming center and overnight shelter.
Keller
The City of Keller has opened a warming station at the Public Library located at 640 Johnson Road.
Lake Dallas
Two locations have opened up as warming centers to help those who need heat, Lake Dallas ISD officials tweeted. The two locations are:
- Global Spheres
- Lake Shores Baptist Church at 276 E Hundley Drive
Lewisville
Music City Mall Lewisville opened Tuesday as a warming center and will be open 24 hours through at least Thursday morning, officials said.
It is located at 2401 S. Stemmons Freeway. The only opened entrance will be #5 on the lower level between Macy's and Zion Market, officials said.
Visitors should bring their own snacks, water, blankets, and other necessities. No weapons are allowed, and face coverings are required. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash or in a kennel at all times when inside the mall. There is an outdoor area for pets to use, officials said.
Mansfield
The City of Mansfield has opened a temporary warming center at Chris W. Burkett Service Center. Address: 620 S Wisteria Street. Call 817-728-3609 for more information.
Two additional warming centers have opened up at these Mansfield churches: St. John's Lutheran at 1218 E. Debbie Lane, 817-473-4889; and Walnut Ridge (West) in Rendon at 7550 Rendon Bloodworth Road. These two centers are not overnight facilities, but can provide temporary warming and a place for people to charge their devices.
McKinney
The City of McKinney has opened two warming stations:
- Roy and Helen Hall Library at 101 E. Hunt St. is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- McKinney Boyd High School at 600 Lake Forest Dr. is open 24 hours
Service animals are allowed in the above locations, but pets are not.
A community sponsored warming center has also opened, and pets are allowed at this location but must be in a crate or kennel:
- First United Methodist at 315 N. Church St. is open 24 hours. Please call 972-214-9219 to check capacity before driving to this location.
Mesquite
The Evans Recreation Center at 1116 Hillcrest Street opened as a temporary warming center on Tuesday. The center will close after 6 p.m., but will reopen on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The following rules are being implemented and enforced:
- COVID-19 health guidelines of social distancing and required face coverings are required
- No pets will be permitted inside (this includes service animals or emotional support pets)
- No food or drinks will be provided
- The public may bring their own food and drinks (refrigeration and storage will not be provided)
- Charging areas for electronic devices will be provided as resources are available
North Richland Hills
North Richland Hills police officials said the city has opened warming stations for area residents to come get warm and charge devices. To find the nearest one, police advise people call their Warming Station Hotline at 817-427-6001.
Parker County
Official said a warming center will be open at new High Ridge Church at 1000 Cinema Drive in Hudson Oaks, Texas. Hours of operation are 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Residents must adhere to COVID-19 guidelines -- wear a mask and social distance. Residents must also bring their own blankets and snacks. Bathrooms will be available.
Plano
Officials have opened an emergency warming center at Grace Church Plano as the power outages continue in combination with the dangerous cold.
The church's address is 3301 Preston Road, at the corner of Preston and Parker roads. It will be open for 24 hours until Thursday evening, officials said.
Other warming center locations opening in Plano as of Feb. 16:
- Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church located at 4500 McDermott Rd., is setting up a warming center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 17-18. Hours may be extended. Water, electricity and free WiFi are provided.
- Islamic Association of Collin County located at 6401 Independence Pkwy., operates a 24-hour warming center.
- Sent Church located at 3701 W. Spring Creek Pkwy., is operating a warming station from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect and people are encouraged to bring their blankets, water and snacks. Pets are not allowed.
Prosper
The Prosper Community Library located at 200 S. Main Street has opened as a temporary warming center. For more information, click here.
Red Oak
The Red Oak Police Department said it City has established a 48-hour warming shelter in the old ROISD Junior High Gymnasium at 200 Live Oak Street in response to residents being without power for several hours.
If you decide to go to the gym, you're asked to followed COVID-19 protocols. You may also bring food, blankets, and your pets in a kennel.
Richardson

Rowlett Bowl-a-Rama at 5021 Lakeview Parkway is serving as a warming center for those without power on Wednesday. It will close as a warming center on Thursday.
Masks must be worn while inside the building and COVID-19 screening/temperature checks are mandatory upon entry.
The Veterans Resource & Outreach Center in Rowlett has opened as a temporary warming center, and not just for veterans. It's located at 4210 Industrial Street.
The Rowlett Community Center is open Thursday Feb. 18 at 8 a.m. for those without power.
Sachse
The Chase Oaks Church is using its Woodbridge campus in Sachse as a warming and charging station. It will be using face mask and social-distancing protocols.

Southlake
The Southlake Department of Public Safety has opened a warming station at its north training facility at 100 East Dove Street. The center is open 24 hours a day.
Terrell
There are several warming centers that have opened in the Terrell area, here are the latest locations and times:

Wylie
Officials have opened a warming station open at Burnett Jr. High, located at 516 Hilltop Lane. Those using the station will need to follow COVID-19 protocols, including wearing a mask. The entrance to the warming station is on the southwestern side of the back of the building.
Cold weather
MedStar emergency services, which serves Fort Worth, will be implementing the cold weather response protocol once the "real feel" temperatures go below 20 degrees.
Under that protocol, response priorities are upgrades for patients in an outdoor area, unprotected from the cold.
Here's MedStar's advice to avoid cold-weather health problems such as frostbite and hypothermia:
- Wear cold weather appropriate clothing such as gloves/mittens, hats, scarves and snow boots.
- Dress in several layers of loose-fitting clothing, and cover your face and mouth if possible.
- Be aware of the wind chill factor. Wind can cause body-heat loss.
- Stay dry, and if you become wet, remove wet clothing immediately.
- Limit your time outdoors.
- Do not ignore shivering. It's an important first sign that the body is losing heat. Persistent shivering is a signal to return indoors.
- Avoid exerting yourself when working in the cold. Dress warmly and work slowly.
