Kay Granger, Texas’ lone Republican female member of congress, is asking Donald Trump to “remove himself from consideration” for the presidency.
The statement, obtained by Texas Tribune reporter Abby Livingston, comes in response to lewd comments Trump made about women in 2005 that were caught on tape. Video of the explicit comments was released this weekend.
“We have heard rumors about the insensitive and vulgar things Mr. Trump says about women,” Granger’s statement reads. “But watching that video is disgusting. Mr. Trump should remove himself from consideration as Commander in Chief.”
Granger has been a member of congress since 1997. Before that, she served as Fort Worth’s first female mayor.
Fellow Texas congressman U.S. Rep. Will Hurd also called for Trump to resign in the wake of Trump’s comments about women.
Oklahoma GOP spokesman Brett Farley resigned Saturday, telling the Associated Press his resignation came because the party refused to repudiate Trump or call for him to step down.
They join a list of Republican leaders not supporting their party's presidential nominee.
