Vice President Mike Pence spoke at two Republican events in Dallas on Saturday, promoting the Trump administration's platforms and also emphasizing that school safety will be "our top priority" in the wake of the Parkland, Fla., shooting.
Pence spoke in the morning at an America First Policies event at the Dallas Sheraton and in the evening at the Dallas County Republican Party Reagan Day Dinner at the Omni downtown.
Pence led off each speech by giving condolences to the victims of the Parkland shooting, where 17 people were killed at Douglas High School. Pence said President Donald Trump will discuss school safety when he meets with governors soon.
"We will remember these heroes, we will tell their stories," Pence said. "As the president said, no child, no teacher or student should ever be in danger [at school]."
In the morning speech, Pence emphasized the administration's economic policies, touting the recent tax plan that led to several large companies giving employees one-time bonuses.
He also responded to a person in the crowd who shouted, "build the wall."
"Make no mistake about it," Pence said. "We're going to build that wall."
In the evening speech, Pence emphasized Trump's support for the armed forces and law enforcement.
"I'm here because I stand with Trump, because I stand with the Dallas County Republican Party," Pence said. "come to think of it, I always stand for our flag and national anthem as well."
Pence said "ISIS is on the run" and that the United States will continue to "stand up against" North Korea's Kim Jong-Un.
