Inside Texas Politics began with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton explaining why he might sue the Trump administration. Paxton also discussed the Texas case going before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 22, 2018. Justices will decide if Texas lawmakers gerrymandered districts to dilute the clout of Blacks and Hispanics. Plus, he talked about his own legal case. Paxton joined host Jason Whitely and Bud Kennedy of the Star-Telegram.

Last week, a Quinnipiac survey showed the Texas U. S. Senate race too close to call. That poll showed incumbent Ted Cruz at 47 percent and challenger Beto O’Rourke at 44 percent. Ross Ramsey, co-founder and executive editor of the Texas Tribune, was in Dallas this week. He discussed whether he expects the U. S. Senate race to be a squeaker. Ross also talked about the latest fight over local control – short-term rentals like Airbnb. He joined host Jason Whitely.

They shared their thoughts on the legacy of former first lady Barbara Bush. Mrs. Bush died last week at the age of 92. Her funeral was held Saturday. Jason, Bud, Ross and Berna Dean also analyzed the recent Quinnipiac Texas poll showing what two-thirds of Texans think about citizenship for immigrants, and how that could affect the governor’s race if it ends up being between Greg Abbott and Lupe Valdez.
