Group working to bring horse shows back to Dallas

In Dallas, it's easy to find an honest to goodness cowboy. But if you're looking for the horse he rode in on, good luck.

“People move in and we’re pushing out horses and stuff like that,” said Robin Drennon, a horse owner and president of a medical management company in Dallas.

Robin says, more specifically, it's the horse shows that have ridden off into the sunset.

"The actual city of Dallas and here at Fair Park, it's been a really long time," she said.

Robin says it can be tiring, and expensive, traveling all over the country for horse shows.

So she decided to take the reins and give the cowboys in Dallas their horse shows back. For more than a year, Robin has worked to bring a horse show back to Dallas. And just this past weekend, they saddled up and made it happen.

The Dallas Charity Horse Show brought riders from all over the country.

By Robin's estimation, it was the first horse show in Dallas in nearly 40 years.

"It's just so much more convenient," said competitor Katherine Kirkpatrick-Stone from Whitney. "I mean, we actually didn't even have to stay here last night. We drove home last night."

And to drive home her point that horse shows are good for this city, Robin says every bit of profit was donated to charity.

"Dallas has given a lot to me so I think it's only natural that I would want to give back to the community," she said.

Robin says it won't be 40 years before this happens again. The Dallas Charity Horse Show will be back next year.

"And I hope this will lead to a lot more shows and a lot more fun," she said.

They're already out of the gate and running.
