'Toxic climate' leads to changes at elementary school

Parents at Comanche Springs Elementary expressed concern about the school's culture
The principal and assistant principal at Comanche Springs Elementary School have now been relieved of their positions.

FORT WORTH — Concerned parents voiced support on Monday night at an Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District board meeting for an assistant principal who was placed on leave last month following an incident with an intrauterine device, or IUD.

Kourtney Glaser, 31, is an administrator at Comanche Springs Elementary School. The disciplinary action came after Glaser had a bleeding incident at a district training session, which doctors later determined was due to an issue with her birth control device.

A letter addressed to Glaser from the district stated that Glaser's anxiety was to blame for a series of bleeding episodes.

The educator admits to suffering from anxiety, but she showed News 8 medical documentation indicating that the incident resulted from the IUD.

At Monday's meeting, parents voiced support for Glaser and expressed additional concerns about her administrative leave and the school's culture.

"The climate at Comanche Hills Elementary is toxic due to poor leadership," said Jennifer Jordan, a mom who also sits on the school's PTA.

Jordan said what happened to Glaser is indicative of a bigger problem.

Chad Ferguson echoed those thoughts.

"The declining grades, performances of students and test scores... no one really knows what is going on, and there is no real leadership in the school," he said.

The district issued a lengthy statement, saying:

The administration of Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD is very aware of the concerns surrounding the leadership team at Comanche Springs Elementary, and is actively working toward a resolution.

The information that has been made public via social media and the news media was not provided by the district and reflects a singular point of view. We are legally obligated to maintain the confidentiality of our employees in regards to health and personnel matters. We have maintained this confidence in the current situation and will continue to do so.

At this time, the district is in the process of investigating specific workplace allegations about Comanche Springs Elementary. During this process, Principal Katy Maurer will be reassigned to another job assignment within the district beginning on Monday, March 2. We will also continue to correspond with Assistant Principal Kourtney Glaser to work toward a resolution regarding both the district's and her concerns.

Maurer reportedly filed a harassment report with Fort Worth police last week, according to News 8's media partner, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Glaser's attorneys said on Monday they talked with police, and the attorneys insisted the report was retaliation and unfounded.

Fort Worth police said they continue to investigate.
