As Kentucky and Oklahoma schools shut down amid teacher protests this week, a Texas teacher turned to social media to voice her frustrations.
The result was dozens of comments of support and agreement from fellow educators and more than 139,000 shares on the post.
The post was penned by Julie Marburger, who teaches at Barstrop School District.
In her post, Marburger says she plans to depart her teaching career at the school year's end, but said, "I don't know if I will make it even that long."
Marburger's post goes on to discuss her students' disrespect for property. Marburger includes photos of her classroom materials, which she says have been destroyed and damaged by students. She also notes that she purchased many of the items out of pocket because she receives no classroom budget.
"People absolutely HAVE to stop coddling and enabling their children," Marburger writes. "It's a problem that's going to spread through our society like wildfire. It's not fair to society, and more importantly, is not fair to the children to teach them this is okay. It will not serve them towards a successful and happy life."
As Marburger's post made its way across Facebook, fellow teachers have voiced their support.
"I am so sorry this has happened to you and I couldn’t agree with you more. Hugs to you and best of luck," one person wrote.
Another said, "It's exactly how I feel about the current school system-even in Utah! I was a teachers aide for ten years and you could NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS pay me enough to be a teacher. Your job is HARD! Even without rude parents. Society is sick. We need to be able to discipline at school and at home. It's ridiculous these days!!"
