'Please don't do this:' Security guard begged for life before he was killed

DALLAS -- An unarmed security guard was shot and killed after an argument at a Holiday Inn Express in Dallas.

Police say there was a man hanging around the parking lot of the hotel at 9089 Vantage Point Drive at about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The hotel security guard, identified as 72-year-old Adane Yemru, went outside to tell the man to leave. The suspect, identified as Randal Terrell, left but then returned with a gun and shot Yemru several times.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a witness heard Yemru begging his killer to "Please don't do this," before shots were fired.

Terrell, 34, then waited for police in the parking lot and was arrested after admitting to the shooting, police said.

WFAA spoke with the victim's family, who said he was kind, gentle, and only wanted to serve others.

Editor's Note: The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Adane Yemru Weldekiros, but his family told us to call him Adane Yemru.
