ARLINGTON, Texas — A man is dead after a series of separate, but related, car crashes in the eastbound lanes of the 4300 block of I-20 West on Saturday around 10 p.m., Arlington Police said.

Police believe there were three crashes. In the first, a pickup truck and a sedan crashed into each other. The sedan was stopped in the middle lanes of the freeway, police said.

The 37-year-old male driver of that passenger car got out and went to the back of the car to try and push the car to the shoulder of the freeway.

He, and his car, was then hit by another car while trying to push the car to the shoulder, causing the second crash.

While all of this was going on, police say the third crash happened when other drivers were trying to swerve to avoid the wreckage on the freeway.

By the time officers arrived on the scene, they found six vehicles involved in multiple crashes.

The 37-year-old driver was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No name will be released until the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office notifies his next of kin.

In total, three lanes of the freeway were closed for about five hours following the crashes. Police are still looking for more details on all that happened.
